Airborne
and online with Swift64
Aircraft operators hate downtime and so do their business passengers.
Swift64 gives air travellers the communications and information
access they need to go on doing business en route and help operators
make the most of the profit potential of their aircraft.
Swift64 is one of the highest performing in-flight communications
service on offer to airlines, their passengers and business aviation.
Available worldwide via the satellites of Inmarsat, the global
mobile communications company, Swift64 brings high-speed e-mail
and internet access to the airways for the first time.
Swift64 provides secure, reliable data communications at speeds
of up to 64kbit/s. For air travellers almost anywhere, this means
quick and easy access to e-mail, the Internet and company networks,
while flight and cabin crews can work continuously with the ground-based
information systems they need to operate their aircraft efficiently
and economically.
Inmarsat Swift64 is delivered to airlines and business aircraft
operators through a number of service providers and manufacturers
that form part of the Inmarsat Partnership. The manufacturers
supply the avionics needed to link the aircraft with ground networks
via the Inmarsat satellites. The service providers act like a
phone company or ISP on the ground, providing connectivity, billing
and other value-added services.
Swift64
offers two types of data service Mobile ISDN and Internet
Protocol (IP) - based Mobile Packet Data service globally
available to aircraft in flight. Swift64 avionics are compatible
with the proven Inmarsat antennas and onboard infrastructure already
installed on most of the world's long-haul airliners, as well
as a large part of the corporate jet fleet.
Swift64
is the latest step in the evolution of services for the aviation
community that began when Inmarsat became the world's first provider
of aeronautical satellite communications in the early 1990s. The
months and years to come will see a steady stream of new offerings
as Inmarsat introduces new and more powerful satellites capable
of meeting the growing demand for broadband data services.
