SWIFT
64 Clearing Swift64 for the airwaves
Like its predecessor services, Swift64 will be subject
to procedures designed to protect service quality and
the integrity of Inmarsat's aeronautical system.
Every prototype installation that is, the first example
of a new combination of avionics, antenna, wiring and airframe
will be access-approved. This will require
a series of tests to ensure that the installation has no undesirable
effects on the Inmarsat network or the service quality experienced
by other users.
Each
new installation type is designed and usually executed by an integrator,
generally an airframe manufacturer, a completion centre or an
aircraft modification specialist. The integrator defines the installation
in terms of its constituent subsystems and interwiring for a specific
airframe type, and takes responsibility for seeing it through
the access-approval process.
Once
the new combination has been approved, subsequent examples will
need only to be commissioned, an administrative process designed
to ensure that they perform correctly and are registered with
all the ground earth stations in the Inmarsat system.
