Telog:
Remote administration
MODEM:
As for modems, setting up a data connection over NMT/GSM/IRIDIUM/INMARSAT
can sometimes be a tricky business as I am sure you may have experienced
already. We have found that Rockwell/Connexant chipset based analog
modems allow for the best performance in case of an analog connection.
We have also had mixed results, ranging from excellent to useless,
with various digital systems like the GSM's and IRIDIUM for example.
The quality of the modem used for setting up remote links to a
Tel-Log box can significantly affect the user experience and the
applicability of usingthis type of administration.
ETHERNET:
As for Ethernet, the Tel-Log has an RS232 connector on it. You
therefore need an Ethernet-to-RS232 converter to work with Tel-Log
remotely over Ethernet. We have found a couple of boxes already
that work flawlessly for this purpose. It is however important
to test the exact unit planned for such a connection before installing
it in a remote location since the converters can be of variable
quality and performance.
The
administration of the system can be done remotely, as the administrations
files can be downloaded on-site, zipped and sent via email. The
import and export features of Softlog are quite extensive. It
is also possible to dial into the system remotely and download
the records this way. Although this will obviously be a more lengthy
process as far as communication time (time-online) is concerned.
The
Telog runs on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000
(both types) and Windows XP (all types).
