Telog:
how it works
The
Single-Line Telog can not be expanded beyond the single line.
The Multi-Line unit however is in fact a base unit with one Server
Card and one-to-eight Line Cards installed, depending on your
configuration. A four line Multi-Line unit contains one server
card and four line cards. If you go above eight lines, a expansion
box is needed. A nine line system will contain one base unit with
one Server Card and eight Line Cards plus one expansion unit with
one Line Card. No additional Server Cards are needed. The firmware
is the same no matter how many lines you install in your unit.
The concept behind the Telard pre-paid cards is simple: Telog
can handle Pre-Paid accounts. TelCard is a way to manage these
accounts semi-automatically and with as little effort as possible
for the system operator/owner. Let me elaborate:
A. The owner of the Telog unit installs the system and connects
one IRIDIUM line to it.
B. He then purchases a Tel-Card Package. This package costs him
for example €92. This becomes his initial out-of-pocket expense.
The package contains 100 cards. The amount (value) of each card
is arbitrary. It is really up to him to decide what this will
be. We stock cards with €5, €10 and €50 printed
on them but we can make them on special order to any amount. The
cost of the cards is the same in all cases. No airtime is bought
from us (you). In addition, a CD-ROM disk with information on
the Telog accounts that need to be created for the cards to work
is included in the package along with basic installation instructions.
C. The owner now runs Softlog (the administration software for
Telog) and installs the contents of the CD-ROM into his own system.
The cards can now be used in the system.
D. The owner sells the cards to his users.
E. The user walks up to the nearest phone connected to the Telog
unit and makes his calls using the number under neath the scratch
pad on the card (his PIN number).
F. The owner pays IRIDIUM for the Airtime only as the cards are
used in the system. No initial investment in Airtime is needed.
In short, the TelCard system takes the hazzle out of running a
pre-paid system like this. It further more allows the owner of
the system to set a margin of his own for all calls sold through
the system. It can be run as either a profit making system or
not-for-profit (or even at a loss) if wanted.
